I agree! The meetings that have a clear focus are the ones that I feel are the most productive. I also wish that more meetings were about issues that can happen in the classroom and how to solve them.

I definitely agree that there have been behaviors from both the productive and unproductive end. I also agree that when the extra time is taken to plan a meeting with true goals, they are much more productive!

I think that the meetings that are at Joyce Bullock contain both lists that the author mentions in the opening pages. Many of the meetings contain many topics that are not listed on the agenda and they are usually to address "housekeeping" issues....

I have to agree with both of you. well stated.

The list certainly describes some meetings I've been too. However, we do have some effective meetings as well. I think I find our team (grade level) meetings a little more effective than some faculty meetings. Maybe it's because thier are fewer pe...

I have been to those meetings too. If I have to attend meetings, I like them focused and precise. I have also been to meetings that have air traffic controllers. I didn't like it at first but then it evened the playing field.

I know how you feel about being the "off task" person because I think I am that person and I amsure that at one time or another we have ALL been that "off task" person. I do think if we take those meetings that we usually try to focus on too many ...

I completly agree with you Patty. I like the idea of allocating another time to talk as adults to provide time to per say, "vent". I also think that the smaller meetings are the more productive than more meaty ones.

Donna, I agree with your statement about meetings need to have a purpose/goal that is attainable to that amount of time given! As far as discussion goes, sometimes quality is better than quantity!

I would have to say that I would say that many of the meetings held at our school fit into the unproductive list. I would say that depending on the meeting and who is leading them. I would say that the majority of the unproductive meetings start o...

I most definately agree with this post from Evelyn...I often feel like we leave meetings more confused that we when we got there. Sometimes, we seems like the champions of the old game of "Running in circles...chasing your own tail!" Also, I have ...

As everyone else has already commented, JBE is guilty of both types of meetings-the productive and the unproductive! Sometimes, I feel like we are like a room full of ADD children...spending much more time off-task than on-task! I will be the firs...

I was reading the blogs of the other teachers and I felt like I could understand where they were all coming from. I do feel like we have had some very productive meetings and I do believe we have had some meetings less effective. I also agreed wit...

I agree with Evelyn, we have many restraints on us and need time to DE-STRESS". I always find the person who doesn't mind me DE-STressing in the classroom. I don't put it on everyone around me, because someone might have more going on than I do. T...

I agree with the different types of meetings over the years-(productive and unproductive) especially unrelated tasks. We all have those calendars that are filled with things to do before the month begins. Keeping the meetings focused on the goal o...

This chapter was interesting and one that we need to pay close attention to. I feel that we start out trying to accomplish a certain goal but many times we tend to go around the goal and end up not really accomplishing what we set out to do. Most of the time there is one or two people that seem to dominate the discussion and it ends up with their decision.

Technology in the classroom

My first blogs talked about my desire to bring technology into the classroom to begin our school focus toward the 21st Century school. Step 1: wrote a grant for laptops for teachers and was awarded $4000 for this project.

I've asked about placing a spreadsheet of our data on the server for all to see (in house) and add to it as we receive more progress monitoring results. All our data will be in one place. I am gathering data from different sources, copy, cut, and paste...what a miracle that is… Continue

So...how's it going?

Have heard that there have been several glitches with computers. Wondering if other counties in the state are having issues?

Share your experiences. What are some success? What preparations did your school take to make the experience successful?

It's only three times per year! lol
